Project Summary

TTT Architects is one of the most visionary and successful design firms in Vietnam. TTT is also highly committed to implementing new design technologies, such as building information modeling (BIM). Recently, TTT was awarded the landmark Opera View project in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. “The clients made no demands about what kind of tools we should use to make the presentations and design documentation,” says Khoi Nguyen, managing director at TTT Architects.

“When we started working with Revit Architecture, we realized how easy it is for architects to implement it into their workflow,” says Khoi Nguyen. “It works the way architects think.” With the complete backing of the firm’s management, Khoi Nguyen was quickly able to build a small team of designers proficient on Revit Architecture software.

“The biggest advantage of adopting Revit Architecture was that our project architects could totally concentrate on design rather than on drafting,” says Tam Minh Tran, chairman, TTT Architects.

For example, Khoi Nguyen believes that the firm’s overall productivity improved dramatically as a direct result of using Revit Architecture. “All of the information contained in the building information model helped us produce our drawings much faster. Revit Architecture helped us go from conceptual drawings to completed drawings in record time.”

And, because Revit Architecture is purpose-built for BIM, anytime the designers made a change, anywhere, the change was automatically coordinated everywhere in the project. “This synchronization led to good coordination between team members, consultants, and engineers,” says Khoi Nguyen.

It also led to increased accuracy. “In a large organization such as ours, it is of the utmost importance that the margin of error on any project be reduced to the bare minimum,” says Khoi Nguyen. “Using Revit Architecture, we could make sure that mistakes and errors were detected at a very initial stage. As a result, we could reach decisions faster since all the information was right in front of us.”

“Our client invested heavily in this project,” says Khoi Nguyen. “Using Revit Architecture, we were very satisfied that we could inform our client about every aspect of the project and enable the client to see an actual model of the project. And with the help of third-party analysis software supported by Revit Architecture, they could simulate how it reacts to real-time climate conditions—before construction.”

The Result

“Using Revit Architecture, we exceeded our client’s expectations on the Opera View project,” says Khoi Nguyen. “We achieved a new pinnacle of creativity, yet spent hardly any time on cumbersome drafting and scheduling of doors, windows, materials, and quantities thereof.” As a result, TTT not only impressed the clients but also earned the National Design Award 2006, Vietnam’s highest honor in creative design. TTT has now begun two more prominent projects in Revit Architecture.
