SHARING, FEELING, AND OWNING

In this issue, two pages of Interior are devoted to introduce a valuable book in design architecture and interior field “Actual and Virtual Architecture Space” conducted by TTT Company.

That is the most accurate expression about the book and the exhibit under the same name held by TTT on the occasion of the 15th anniversary celebration of the firm’s foundation. The expression “Sharing, Feeling, and Owning” reflect almost sufficiently how the firm leaders and staff have been endeavored to have a professionally valuable and sentimentally meaningful book. The expression also embraces a communication process in which the firm’s occupational experiences and the knowledge of learning by doing in the architecture and design field have been disinterestedly and transparently shared with the peers and interested people.

Recall in 2002, when TTT celebrated the 10th foundation anniversary; the first edition of “Actual and Virtual Architecture Space” received the warm welcome and encouragement by the architects and architecture and art students. Then and now, the purpose of the publication is to share the firm’s experiences with colleagues, contribute to the academic literature, regard it as thanks to customers, and record the firm’s occupational efforts. However, the contents of the book have experienced differences; they have been expanded. If the first edition focuses on the technology applications in architecture and office interiors, then public works, hotels, resorts, high-end apartment buildings have been explored in the second edition. It reflects not only the abundance of the contents but also the firm’s development and growth.

With “Actual and Virtual Architecture Space II”, the personnel in charge of the contents have taken special care of it so that readers can capture at best the professional issues by feeling and sensing. The book is the open-minded share of observations, research, and practices of TTT works. With it, students must learn a lot of useful things from office space, office building to high-end interiors, styles in architecture and interior in the modest way the author shows them. Readers can also take some “tricks” to apply in their practice, such as the combination of IT and design software. For instance, to achieve the optimum results in designing the standing side of Opera View Building, the designer has used the aerial photograph downloaded from Google Map, combined the field survey and Revit Design to have the perspectives matching with each point of view.

A technical book written in a romantic style! If “being actual” and “being virtual” are side by side in the first edition and the readers find it hard to distinguish where they really are, it will be a contrary presentation in the second edition. The interior space perspectives which are very resemble the real pictures are added with hand-sketched figures that may be the border of a transparent person or a tree shadow in a resort perspective to reveal the designer’s intention: the spirit is the most important; however modern the technology may be, the designer’s exquisite talent is the decisive factor that creates the spirit of the work. The language in the book is also flexible and changing over various expressions. Sometimes, a conversation between a designer and a customer reveals a professional matter. Sometimes the author invites the readers to come to the firm for a feeling of a live space whereby design solutions can be mentioned.

“Come to feel, come to share, come to own” is also the invitation TTT offers to whom those are interested in design, architecture, and interior to join the second exhibit Actual and Virtual Architecture Space on the ground of Metropolitan Building (235 Dong Khoi Street) from December 13 to 18, 2007 with 50 3D-picture panels and some 3D picture interacting with viewers. The books Actual and Virtual Architecture Space are also sold here. Students with student cards can enjoy a 30% discount. See the exhibit and download materials and pictures at www.tttcompany.com.
